Our Mission

The Physician Health Program of British Columbia strives to provide advocacy and support for physicians, including those in training and their families, who are experiencing problems related to personal and family emotional health issues, the inappropriate use of alcohol and/or drugs or coping with physical illness.

The Program's policy is to encourage early identification by self, colleagues or others and to bring prompt assistance to the physician, physician in training or their family, including active intervention if necessary. The policy is also designed to ensure referral to appropriate assessment/treatment resources, with the ultimate objective of full rehabilitation.

The Program supports a policy of education of physicians and physicians in training, while aspiring to promote physical and mental well being within the profession. The Program also provides advice and information on how to appropriately support a colleague in difficulty.
